WALK FOR THE KIDS' - 75 kilometres for 75 years

Jack+at+artgallery.jpg

The Walk for the Kids’ Fundraiser took place this past Saturday, August 29th, when 10th grader Jack Bouchard walked 75 kilometres in ONE DAY to raise funds for BC kids.

At 4:30 am on the 29th Jack set out on foot with three friends: Alex, Antoine and Yanick on bikes, to begin his journey through Vancouver and North Vancouver. He met up with several people along the way, including family and friends, Kids’ Fund grant recipient Jayden and his mother Anita, as well as Chris Gailus from Global BC who accompanied Jack for a small portion of the walk.

All in all, it took over 10,300 steps and 18 hours for Jack to complete the 75 kilometres ( persevering through some VERY large blisters), arriving at the Vancouver Art Gallery just after 10:30 pm. Not only that, but Jack surpassed his fundraising goal by over $1,000, raising $8,585 for the Kids’ Fund!

If you missed out on the walk on Saturday but still want to contribute, feel free to donate here.

Walk For Kids' Fundraiser

Jack Bouchard, a 9th-grader from East Vancouver and son of CKNW Kids’ Fund board member Jessica Bouchard, is taking on the momentous task of walking 75 kilometres to raise money for the CKNW Kids’ Fund. He and a few of his friends are going to walk 75 kilometres (in honour of the Kids’ Fund’s 75th Anniversary) on August 29th 2020, taking a route through Vancouver and North Vancouver. Jack plans on hitting important landmarks along the way and having guest walkers join him for portions of the walk, including families the Kids’ Fund has supported, Kids’ Fund board members and staff, as well donors.

His ambitious goal is to raise $10,000, and to date he has already raised $2,750. Jack and his friends are going to make a movie out of the adventure, which they hope will be completed in time for this year’s Pledge Day on December 1st. If you would like to sponsor Jack, please visit his fundraiser page here where you can donate any amount.

Thank you Jack - we look forward to walking with you in support of BC Kids!

Scene Ideas raising money for the Connecting Kids' Fund

Our friends at Scene Ideas have created lawn signs to help spread positivity and words of encouragement during the COVID-19 crisis; they are also generously donating $10 from the sale of each sign to the Connecting Kids’ Fund, helping to keep vulnerable kids in BC connected to their teachers, support systems and friends, during this challenging time. Their goal is to raise $1,000 for the Connecting Kids’ Fund by May 31st!

The signs come in two designs, the ‘Be Kind’ sign and ‘Mountie’ sign, available for $20 each by ordering through their email at: sales@sceneideas.ca. To help keep you safe they are offering free contact-less delivery within Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta and Coquitlam as well as contact-less pick up from their shop at 2200 Shell Road in Richmond.

To keep you occupied while isolating at home, Scene ideas has also created a fun colouring version of their 'Be Kind' sign. Download the printable PDF here and don’t forget to share photos of your masterpieces on social media tagging Scene Ideas and the CKNW Kids’ Fund!

The Connecting Kids' Fund

KidsFund-TW-Posts-01-Week1Post4.jpg

We are living in unprecedented times and social isolation has become a reality for us all. However, for many of the kids we serve, this isolation is what they experience each and every day. As we do our best to flatten the curve and prevent the spread of COVID-19, the CKNW Kids’ Fund has been working diligently to ensure we continue our support of vulnerable children in our province.

While we adapt to new ways of connecting remotely, many of our day-to-day activities are moving online: from meetings and classes to even appointments and playdates. For families who cannot afford the devices required to access these new ways of living, the forms of connection we currently rely on are simply not possible. With the closure of schools, these children will not have access to the assistive technology they need to continue their therapies and education. Without access to a laptop, iPad or specific apps, many will be left even more isolated.

With this in mind, we have created the Connecting Kids’ Fund to address the immediate needs facing some of BC’s most vulnerable kids. Funds raised for the Connecting Kids' Fund will go towards insuring children with special needs in our community have access to the assistive technology and devices they need to remain connected to their education, health and well-being. Help us help these kids stay connected.

We now need your help more than ever. As a valued member of our Kids’ Fund community, your support plays a profound role in ensuring we can assist those who need us most. Please donate to the CONNECTING KIDS’ FUND.

COVID-19 Update

With the rapid developments and recommendations being made to slow the transmission of COVID-19 there may be a lot of uncertainty about access to funding. The CKNW Kids’ Fund wants to reassure our community and families we serve that there will be no interruption in the processing of grants. Our team will be working diligently to ensure we continue our support of the most vulnerable children in our province. Please be aware there may be a delay in receiving confirmation and in the processing of our invoices. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate these challenging and difficult times and remember the CKNW Kids’ Fund is here to help.

Beards for Bucks: a Lynda Steele Show fundraiser

CKNW BEARDS FOR BUCKS_LOGO4_APPROVED.jpg

On March 12th The Lynda Steele show is hosting a live on-air fundraiser, where CKNW personalities will shave off their beloved beards to raise a few bucks for the CKNW Kids' Fund.

Even though it's not being officially advised, many people are choosing to wear face masks to protect against the effects of the new coronavirus outbreak. But did you know that beards make their use ineffective? It's because the facial hair gets in the way of the mask forming a tight seal. So the Lynda Steele team gathered a range of CKNW personalities to shave off their beloved beards, all to raise a few bucks for us!

Charles Adler, Larry Gifford, Eric Chapman, Amir Ali, Alan Regan and more will all participate in the live on-air fundraiser, which takes place on Thursday 12 March.

Please hit the button below to donate and if you'd like to shave your own beard, please send some photos and videos to lynda@cknw.com!

2020 Pink Shirt Day Luncheon

Pink Shirt Day Luncheon 2019, Live-Auction with Fred Lee

The Pink Shirt Day Luncheon has been a part of the Pink Shirt Day campaign for the past 8 years. This well-loved event brings together businesses, community partners, influencers and supporters of the CKNW Kids’ Fund Pink Shirt Day for an afternoon dedicated to spreading awareness and raising funds in support of programs that foster children's healthy self esteem.

On February 21st we will be continuing that tradition with slight changes, including a change of venue: Elisa Wood-fired Grill, as well as a new host: CKNW on air host Lynda Steele. We are also welcoming Bridgitte Anderson, the new CEO and president of the Vancouver Board of Trade, as keynote speaker. Bridgitte is the first female CEO of the Vancouver Board of Trade in its 132-year history and will be discussing her professional experiences and what it means to be a woman in today’s corporate environment.

To date, the Pink Luncheon has raised over $430,000, and continues to be our largest fundraiser of the Pink Shirt Day Campaign. It takes many to make this day possible, and we are incredibly grateful to the support of our Luncheon organizing committee for their hard work leading up to and during the event. We would also like to thank our sponsors: Alpine Credits, Beedie, Swoop Airlines, Skin Technique, Lugaro Jewellers, Stong’s Market, Gray Monk Estate Winery and Elisa Wood-Fired Grill.
