Summer is in full swing and so are our preparations for the 2nd Annual Take A Swing Golf Tournament, happening Monday, September 9th at the Vancouver Golf Club. Last year's event did not disappoint and proved to be a successful and fun new fundraising initiative for the CKNW Kids' Fund. This year promises an even greater tournament and we have secured some impressive hole-in-one prizes for you to "take a swing" at.
Including:
a Cadillac XT4
$10,000 cash prize
A Stay & Play package at Pebble Beach including airfare.
Golf will be followed with an evening program hosted by 980 CKNW on-air host Lynda Steele alongside Global BC news anchor Chris Gailus . Dinner will be provided as well as an enticing live auction put on by auctioneer Fred Lee.
We are incredibly grateful to our many supporters who continue to help the CKNW Kids' Fund and allow us to provide specialized equipment, therapies, and emergency support for thousands of children.
With your help, we have provided 186 individual children with funding so far this year. We have also provided 15 community grants to local non-profits tackling education, food insecurity and many other important causes for BC kids.
The CKNW Kids' fund was also proud to disperse our Pink Shirt Day grants last month, with a total of over $200,000 being given to programs that foster children’s healthy self-esteem.
Almost 75 years ago, a brand-new Vancouver radio station decided to make the holiday season a little brighter for a local orphanage by purchasing gifts for the residents of The Loyal Protestant Home. CKNW listeners supported the idea immediately, and, year after year through their generous donations, the practice grew into tradition - one that continues to this day. While the orphanage has since come and gone, CKNW Kids' Fund has expanded to support children facing a wide range of challenges throughout the province of British Columbia.
On August 15th, in celebration of CKNW and CKNW Kids' Fund's 75 years in the community, 980 CKNW will be broadcasting live ALL DAY from Anvil Center
( 777 Columbia St, New Westminster ).
We love being able to thank our donors in person; so be sure to swing by this family friendly event and help celebrate 75 years of helping kids!

We are very proud of the support we provide to worthy organizations across BC that share our mission in supporting kids.
Many children in the Lower Mainland’s inner-city schools, who rely heavily on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs during the school week, go home to meager or no meals on the weekends. They are deprived of nutrients and are at risk for serious health problems and learning complications.
Backpack Buddies bridges this weekend hunger gap by filling and delivering backpacks of food on Friday afternoons for these children to take home for the weekend, ensuring that every child returns to school on Monday morning fed and ready to learn.
Last year, they provided over 24,000 backpacks to children in need.
